Summary

Throughout the Fortis experiment, the Analog Astronauts (on EVA as well as unsuited inside the BASE) are going to wear the watches and make use of its functions (e.g. timeFORTIS_manifest_2.pngr). The aim thereby is to include the watch and its functions in field operations and investigate the potential added value of the watch as a tool at hand.

Hypotheses:

a) Mechanical watches are suitable for field operations in desert like environments and can bring an added value to field work in general.

b) Mechanical watches can be used in combination with the AOUDA Spacesuit simulator and facilitate the execution of scientific experiments.

Objectives:

a) Test the functions of the Fortis watch in an Mars-like environment in combination with the AOUDA Spacesuit simulator.

b) Investigate the added value a mechanical watch can bring to field work in general.

Successful Experiment Run:

An experiment run is considered successful if the watch was worn during field work (on EVA) and at least one function was implemented in the operations. The respective function used depends on the task at hand. The watch shall be used as an additional tool. A short feedback form has to be filled out after a successful experiment run.An experiment run is considered successful if the watch was worn during field work (on EVA) and at least one function was implemented in the operations.
