Summary
WoRIS-Albedo experiment consists of six stations forming a system and located close to each other. Each station contains a plexi-glass box with a block of glacial ice laying on a net located inside the box and plates characterized by different albedo that are placed on the top of the ice. The following parameters will be measured during the experiment:
- The level of water within the lowest part of the plexi-glass box (below the net) with a probe consisting of a straw floating on a low-density foam.
- Temperature of the surface of plates (characterized by different albedo) and adhering ice with a usage of a thermal camera.
- Morphology of the ice surface surrounding each plate with a photographic documentation.
Objectives
WoRIS is a field experiment designed to determine influence of albedo and emissivity of the objects laying on the surface of glacier on the rate of its melting, and weathering of basaltic dust placed on the surface of the glacier.
WoRIS-Albedo is a part of the experiment focused on studying the rate of glacial ice melting in response to the albedo.
